Senior Systems Administrator

Senior Systems Administrator sought for Scottsdale, AZ based Nautilus Insurance Group.  The Senior Systems Administrator will design, install, configure and administer server hardware, server software, networked switches, hypervisor environment, data storage systems, and fiber network. This includes optimizing and fine tuning operating systems and components to achieve high availability and performance. The Senior Systems Administrator will also administer the VOIP telephone system.

 

Responsibilities of the Senior Systems Administrator include but are not limited to:

 

-Assuring business requirements are met for new/upgraded applications.

-Providing administrative support for system backup software, assuring data is backed up and validating recovery procedures.

-Researching and recommending new systems and applications to improve efficiency, reliability and performance of IT environment.

-Collaborating with team members to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of systems to meet corporate objectives.

-Providing administrative support for VOIP telephone system and assuring database is backed up and

-Loading and configuring software packages such as operating systems and applications on servers; testing and observing system functions to verify correct system operations.

-Ensuring infrastructure hardware and software comply with established policies, standards, licensing agreements, and configuration guidelines.

-Performing file system management using established methodology and standard practices.

-Reviewing and deploying service packs, hot fixes, system updates, and vendor-supplied patches according to best practices for server and system environments.

-Providing 24 hour on-call coverage on a rotation basis.

-Leading, managing and or participating in special projects.

-Developing and maintaining systems training materials and systems documentation for educating IT staff.

-Conducting software/hardware evaluations for new and replacement technology.

-Mentoring and providing guidance to junior members of the team.

-Enforcing Change Control procedures to insure minimal production impact.

-Assuring Data Center is clean and clear of obstructions.

 

Requirements

The successful Senior Systems Administrator will have:

-A BS degree in Computer Science or related field or 6 or more years’ related experience and/or training.

-A minimum of 6 years hands-on experience installing, configuring and maintaining the following technologies – current versions utilized are noted:

-Hypervisor technology required, VMware preferred (v5.1)

                -Windows server –  (2003/2008)

                -SAN or NAS technology, NetApp ( 8.1+) preferred

                -Brocade Fiber Channel experience in zoning

               

-Four or more years’ experience with installing Microsoft .NET framework, Microsoft IIS, and Microsoft SQL Server  (2003/2008), as well as experience with Active Directory and Group Policy, DNS and TCP/IP networking and using backup management software –(NetBackup 7 Veeam 6.5 ).

-Some familiarity with load balance appliances – F5 preferred.

-Used system monitoring and alerting (Nagios XI, VOPs and native tools in VMware).

-The ability to demonstrate knowledge of current Windows PC software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Internet Explorer.

-Some experience with Linux or Unix.

-Certifications in VMware VCP and/or MCSE– preferred.
